The Output Container

Once the PIM system has been implemented centrally with all data, the output containers take on significant importance. They allow for the individual use of templates from customers (Amazon, Zalando, Douglas, Rewe, Edeka,GDSN, internal etc.) and generate these with the current data from the PIM on-the-fly.


Formats

The usual output formats are Excel (xlsx) or csv. Through an elaborate assignment of data fields, including the calculation of values, a high degree of individuality can be achieved, and that at the push of a button. The functionality is generally a PIM export.

Single and Multiple Products

Depending on the integration of the platform, lists with many products or containers based on individual products (e.g., displays with components) can be created.

API – Application Program Interface

There remains the possibility to access data via an interface. Here we develop individual interface solutions for customers and partners.

Why was the IOC Individual Output Container developed?

The IOC was developed based on customer requirements. It is now an integral part of the dynamicPIM® solution. The goal was to create a way to automatically create customer templates for their customers, e.g., REWE, Douglas, Zalando, Flaconi, Edeka, dm, Müller, etc., based on the templates of the customers.


The challenges here are significant, as the customer templates are completely different and the structure must not be changed.



How does the IOC work as an individual output container?

The IOC can be accessed under the Download menu in the admin area. Unlimited output containers can be created there. The containers are set up and fields are dragged into the container using drag & drop. There are further options per field through an options menu. Components can also be created.


Multiple Use of Data FieldsEach field can be dragged into the container multiple times if necessary. The formatted values remain the same.

Can the templates be authorized?

All containers can be authorized based on:

  • Roles

  • Local Groups

  • Customer Groups

Formatting in Excel, which format in Excel for the output container

All formatting from Excel is retained and remains in the template. Only very complex formulas can cause problems during generation. It is essential to avoid being overly formula-based, which is generally unnecessary.


What must be considered in the Excel template?

  • Only xlsx, no macro files (xlsm) or pivot tables

  • Excel must be formatted precisely and cleanly

  • Customer templates should be recreated, and files copied; often templates are already damaged or contain data that is not immediately visible

  • Formulas and references are possible

Multiple Worksheets in the Output ContainerThere has previously been no requirements profile for the function of multiple worksheets. However, logic and functionality will be implemented in the future similarly to that of a single worksheet. Images in the container

Images as thumbnails are also possible in the container and must currently be at the top of the list.

Objective of the Deepl Integration

The integration of the Deepl.com API enables immediate spoken translation of the core language, which is always German in our case, based on the technology and quality of the API. The fields should be implemented as child fields of the core field. That means there are as many child fields as there are languages to be implemented.


Functions

The functionality can take the following parameters into account:

  • Definition of which fields should be translated

  • Automatic translation of the base language core fields as new content is added or existing content is updated

  • Content will be written in editable form in the respective language field

  • As soon as a change is made in the language manually, the translation can be suspended for each product at the field. This suspension can be deactivated with the checkbox so that a new translation would take place in case of changes.

  • The API connection is defined in the backend. There is a free API with up to 500,000 characters that can be used for implementation. In live cases, we would switch to the pro version.

Opportunities and Use of AI with Deepl or ChatGPT

The implementation of this function would be a master function that offers many opportunities from a marketing perspective. Translating product content is very costly, and users can decide whether the quality is sufficient or if they want to have it revised by native speakers for, e.g., hero products. They would also have a linguistic template.

The use of Deepl is one way. In principle, ChatGPT can also be connected via an API. Here, it must be checked on a case-by-case basis which AI works better. Deepl is also AI-based, so it is not about whether it is AI or not AI, but about the respective language engine and its capabilities.
